I’m a big fan of the Clever Coffee Dripper, which is sort of a drip/immersion hybrid. It’s cheap, easy to use, and has kept me nicely wired nearly every morning since 2011. See:
Since this is on Tim Harford’s blog, I’m a bit disappointed that he let the old people in the video get away with the first-make-sure-you-get-unnecessarily-expensive-coffee bit.
If you really want a good cup of coffee, start with good cheap beans and make an espresso or cappuccino.
Or get a vacuum coffee maker.

Paper filters take out the wonderful oils. Go with a french press or espresso instead.

Paper filters certainly remove the kids in coffee that raise cholesterol levels. But that seems like a good thing to me.
